Andrew Podger AO wins international award for public administration

Australian National University Professor of Public Policy, Andrew Podger AO, has won an international award for his outstanding contributions to public service.

Professor Podger, who works in the Australia New Zealand School of Government in the Research School of Social Sciences, received the prize at the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA)’s annual conference in Seattle, USA.

Professor Podger has a distinguished career as a public servant. He was Australian Public Service Commissioner between 2002 and 2004 and was Secretary of the Australian Department of Administrative Services (1993-94) and Department of Health and Aged Care (1996-2002).

He was awarded an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO) in 2004 and was appointed Professor of Public Policy at the ANU in 2010. Professor Podger heads a panel that is undertaking a comprehensive community consultation about the ANU School of Music’s future.

Professor Podger has worked with the ASPA for more than seven years including helping run international conferences and courses on public administration in China and Indonesia.
